It’s opening night in the NBA, and the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers will tip off their season against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. The new-look Lakers went a perfect 4-0 in the preaseason, with two wins over the Clippers. Talen Horton-Tucker led the Lakers in scoring in both wins over the Clippers, while LeBron James and Anthony Davis did not play. The superstar duo looked sharp in the Lakers’ last preseason win, combining for 55 points against the Suns.
The Lakers have no players on the injury list. For the Clippers, Marcus Morris Sr. is reportedly out with a knee injury.

Advice and prediction
It’s difficult to glean any useful information from the NBA preseason, especially given the short buildup to the season in 2020, but the Clippers did not look great, going 0-3 and losing their games by an average of 17 points.
The Lakers, meanwhile, may have found a key role player emerging in Talen-Horton Tucker, and got a few reps in with the first-choice lineup. Tuesday’s opener will have an entirely different intensity – and you may want to hold off on betting until you’ve seen each team play – but the best bet on the board is Lakers -3.5.
I’m less confident in the over/under, but in four games last season, Clippers-Lakers hit under 220.5 all four times. I’d lean toward the under again on Tuesday.

Moneyline (ML)
The Lakers (-176) are the moneyline favorite, but considering this is just the second game of the “NBA restart,” the CLIPPERS (+155) appear to be the better moneyline bet. These are the best two teams in the Western Conference and each side has had success against one another this season. Therefore, the smart play is to TAKE THE CLIPPERS (+155) and the value.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)
While picking the Clippers on the moneyline provides better value, picking the CLIPPERS (+4.5) to cover the spread makes a lot of sense, too, if you expect a close game. With so much unknown about both teams in the “NBA restart,” it’s wise to TAKE THE POINTS and the value here. It is worth noting that the Clippers covered in six of their last eight games before the season was suspended. While they will have some injuries to navigate through in this contest, getting 4.5 points is just too much to pass on.
Over/Under (O/U)
The total is 215.5 with -110 on both sides. It feels low, considering both teams were averaging more than 114 points per game this season. While it’s fair to expect some sloppy play from both sides, these are two of the best offenses in the NBA. Expect a ton of points to be scored in this one with the OVER 215.5 (-110) hitting in Thursday’s nightcap.
